The Perfect Technique

The Un-Boxed Gift

Sadly some gifts defy even the best attempts to get them into a box. Here are some alternatives:

1. Buy some plain brown paper bags – decorate them with stamps, cut-outs, or glued on embellishments. Fold the top over twice, punch holes through all the layers and thread through ribbon, cord etc.
2. Wrap items like books, CDs and DVDs as you would a box, if there is more than one, wrap them individually in contrasting papers and tie together with ribbon.
3. Buy a gift bag and a number of sheets of coloured tissue paper.  Fold the tissue paper into the bag, place the gift inside and have the edges of all the paper sticking out of the gift bag. A plain white bag will work very well.
4. If it is a gourmet food item, consider buying Chinese takeaway boxes, placing the gift inside in tissue paper and tying it with coloured satin or grosgrain ribbon (if you want it to look really classy).
5. Cookbooks can be wrapped in a tea-towel or muslin cloth and finished off with ribbon or string to which a kitchen utensil has been attached.
6. Pretty gingham cloth or organza sewn into simple bags and then closed off with ribbon can transform the simplest gift.
